Information: Being is from Kiribati. He holds degrees in zoology and fisheries biology, and is now completing his doctorate degree with the Marine Biology Department at James Cook University in Australia.

Before joining SPC in 1998, Being worked with the Fisheries Division of Kiribati for six years as Head of the Fisheries Research Section, providing technical advice to the government. Later, he joined a private US consultancy firm as Marine Resource Adviser for the Pacific Region. He has also been independently involved in other consultancy work, including the assessment of pearl oysters, coastal finfish resources, ciguatera surveys, environmental impact assessments, and reviewing research.

Being's main task at SPC was to provide advice and technical assistance to member countries and territories on issues relating to the live reef food fish and aquarium trades. This included assessment of fish resources to provide recommendations for development and management, advice and assistance in the drafting of management policies, and awareness programmes. Being also co-ordinated a Pacific Regional Live Reef Fish Initiative. The project aimed to address the problems and threats caused by the live reef fish trade by collaborating with other international organisations as well as regional fisheries departments and local fishing communities.

Being left SPC at the end of 2013.
