Sensor Web Enablement for the Pacific

More and more environmental data is acquired in the Pacific everyday through loggers and real-time sensors. Sharing the data across organizations and across disciplines becomes necessary especially for transversal projects such as climate change monitoring and mitigation or disaster risk reduction.

The Sensor Web Enablement working group members have developed standards such as Sensor Model Language (SensorML), Sensor Observation Services (SOS) or Sensor Alert Service (SAS) which complement Web Map Service (WMS) and Web Feature Service (WFS) now familiar to GIS users.

In this presentation we describe the new standards, their current implementation by data providers (such as NOAA Integrated Ocean Observing System) and GIS software developers, and future adoption by SPC to share climate change related data.
