Information: Originally from the northern Cook Islands, James has a background in black pearl aquaculture. In early 2012, he joined the Ministry of Marine Resources as Fisheries Officer for one year. He then left for New Zealand to resume his studies and successfully pass a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Auckland.

After finishing his studies, he worked as a Project Officer with the Cook Islands Climate Change Division. His work involved assessing the health status of reefs in relation to climate change.

In 2017, he joined the Ministry of Marine Resources as a Marine Scientist to conduct biodiversity survey assessments across all of the Cook Islands southern group islands.

James joined SPC Fisheries Aquaculture and Marine Ecosystems Division in February 2020 as Pacific Island Fisheries Professional.

Outside of work, James enjoys playing rugby and spearfishing.
