Information: Robert is from Vanuatu. He holds a Diploma in Aquaculture, a Masters degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture and a Masters degree in Environmental Management.

From 1993 to 1994 Robert worked as a Research Assistant with the then ICLARM (now WorldFish) on village grow-outs of giant clams and pearl oyster trials in the Solomon Islands. He moved to Vanuatu in 1995 to take up the post of Senior Fisheries Biologist with the Department of Fisheries. Then, from 2003 to September 2010, he was employed as Manager for Research & Aquaculture Division with the Vanuatu Department of Fisheries, overseeing the implementation of aquaculture and coastal resource assessment activities. Major focus was on seaweed, native freshwater prawn, tilapia fish, giant clam farming, trochus and green snails reseeding research, as well as stock assessment surveys.

From 2007 until May 2010, while continuing to manage the Research & Aquaculture Division, Robert assumed the role of Acting Director of Fisheries for Vanuatu, managing and implementing the country’s fisheries core activities, which included providing direct advice to the Minister responsible for Fisheries on matters relating to fisheries and aquaculture. Major tasks involved carrying out institutional reforms within the organization, overseeing bilateral fishing negotiations and access agreements, monitoring the establishment of on-shore fish processing plants in the country and ensuring Vanuatu’s compliance with the conservation and management measures of the various Tuna RFMOs it is a party to.

Since September 2010, Robert is SPC's Aquaculture Adviser, managing the work programme of the Aquaculture Section and providing support to governments and the private sector in planning aquaculture activities that are economical and environmentally sustainable.
