Information: Watisoni 'Soni' is from Fiji. He holds a degree in Environmental Studies from the Fiji Institute of Technology.
Before joining SPC in January 2019, Soni worked with Partners in Community Development Fiji for six years and the Wildlife Conservation Society for three years. He was involved in coastal fisheries science and management at local community and national level, community-based training on post-harvest processing of sea cucumbers and community-based compliance and enforcement.
Prior to that he had joined SPC for one year as a Pacific Islander Attachment – Fisheries Science and Management, a time during which he was involved in assessing the impacts of climate change on coastal fisheries.
Soni is now Community Based Fisheries Management Officer at FAME for the Pacific European Union Marine Partnership (PEUMP) programme. He is assigned to provide support and advice to governments, communities, stakeholders and the private sectors in planning and implementing coastal fisheries community-based management, using ecosystem approach to fisheries management (EAFM) principles.
